Backpacking
Equipment
When planning for a backpacking trip,
there is some necessary backpacking equipment that you must
have to make your life easier. If you go to any outdoors store,
you will see that there is a lot of backpacking equipment that
you could buy, but that you probably do not need. Determining
what backpacking equipment you need is up to you, but it never
hurts to have some suggestions.
A crucial piece of backpacking equipment that you must have is
a backpack. Imagine that. As simple of a concept as that is,
you will still need to do research on what type of backpack is
best suited for you, your likes, and your trip. Whether you
choose a frameless or framed (external or internal) backpack is
usually dependant on the length of your trips. Frameless ones
work for short trips where your loads will be lighter whereas
framed ones are best for the longer ones that require you to
carry more weight. The right backpack can mean the difference
between a fun trudge and a long one.
A tarp or tent would be the next type of backpacking equipment
to look for. Again, this decision is dependant on personal
taste, the type of trip, and even the season that you are
backpacking in. Ranging from lightweight to heavy and
three-season to Mountaineering, the right tent can be just as
daunting to search for as a backpack. Most outdoor stores have
trained associates that can help you in picking out a tent that
will best suit your needs. If nothing else, you can also opt
for the lightweight backpacking tarp; it is lighter than a tent
and easier to pack.
A backpacking stove is a convenient backpacking equipment used
for cooking and can be found in such lightweight, compact
varieties that they are worth packing. They save a lot of time
and energy when it comes chow time. You will want to pack some
basic cooking utensils as well as something to eat on/with
depending on what meals you are planning to prepare. It is not
necessary to pack a pair of clothes to change into daily, but
again comes down to personal preference.
Backpacking equipment such as a backpack and a tent are
no-brainers; if you do not think to pack them, you should not
be backpacking. Other suggested equipment is up to the user. As
much as it would be nice to have your portable electric
toothbrush, at a little lighter weight, a regular toothbrush
will suffice. Since you will be lugging all backpacking
equipment on your back, you will want to go as light as
possible.
