Keeps turning itself off when adjusting beam

Hi, I use the 3D Maglite at work and have found lately the beam has been turning off when I adjust the beam by turning the cap or even if I just move the torch around. Have tried new batteries etc, but no help. This is my second Maglite after the first one did the same thing after about 18 months of use.

It sounds like the spring in the tail cap may be depressed which would cause intermittent contact with the negative end of the Batt. Shake the flashlight vigorously, you should NOT hear ANY noise. If you DO, take the end cap off and pull on the spring, you are trying to stretch it out a bit, replace the cap and shake it again. Go through these steps until it is QUIET when you shake it. Also make sure there's NO CORROSION at the Positive and Negative ends of the contacts. Maglites are pretty user friendly and the best light money can buy. I have the rechargeable model which I carried for 21 years during my tour in law enforcement. Anyway, if it still refuses to work properly, go to; they are based in California. They will help you get it going. Good luck. :)

A cell (Duracell D) has got stuck in the barrell of my 3 D cell torch. All efforts to pry it loose with a sharp intrument have failed.

Most likely the Duracell Battery in there is corroded and had fused itself to the inner aluminum wall of the light. MagLite warranties their flashlight if damage from a battery was caused by either a Duracell, Ever-ready or Ray-O-Vac battery. Same thing happened to me, I brought it to their Repair Center in Ontario, CA and they tried to remove the battery while I waited, they couldn't remove it so the gave me a brand new flashlight. They are real good about backing up their product. You can call them at CONTACT INFORMATION Corporate OfficeMAG Instrument, Inc.2001 South Hellman AvenueP.O. Box 50600Ontario, California 91761 U.S.A. I have a 4 D cell maglite. I have had it for about 10 years. The batteries leaked and froze in the unit. It was major work to remove them. In the process the part of the light that holds the bulb was lost. Can that part be replaced?

I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago. I got the address of the battery company (which is on battery), mailed them a hand written letter, explaining what happened, and they sent me a new flash, with batteries. But, that was when companies had warrenties that said if our batteries ever harm your product in any way, we will replace it free of charge. It's worth a will have send the old flash light and batteries, after, or with your letter.TJS

Flashlight only works when end cap is partially on. Will not work when cap is fully screwed in. New batteries installed.

I've never hear of this being a 'feature.' Consider searching for a replacement tailcap, for the contact it makes with the batteries may be faulty. You can also contact Maglite and ask them to honor the warranty.

Battery stuck in main tube

This has happened to me several times. You can begin removing the bulb and reflector from its end of the flashlight. I then get a very long (5 or 6 inch) deck screw, the kind that has very coarse wood screw type threads. I screw this into the swollen battery (you may need to drill a small diameter pilot hole in the botton of the battery) and pull on the screw with pliers to see if the battery will budge. If it wont budge, I then stand the flashlight with the battery compartment up, fill it with water, leave it overnight, drain the water and pull on the deck screw again, this usually removes the battery. NOTE: The magnesium in these flashlights rapidly corrodes away in the presence of battery leakage, so if the battery has leaked a lot, you may be left with only the undamaged components to use as spare parts to repair other lights. ALSO: If you batteries have a no-leak guarantee, contact the manufacturer' customer service for your free Maglight.
