First of all are you certain the bulb is ok? Test for continuity across the light bulb. The filament in light bulb will have a very low resistance. if you are not handy with a multimeter then respond back with a new thread and I can give you more tips on using a multimeter. Next, clean the contact surfaces off where the battery terminals contact the flashlight copper contacts. You can use a high grit sand paper if necessary. They sell battery terminal cleaner solutions/supplies at Automotive stores if you like. However, distilled water and/or alcohol will probably work just as good. Next connecting one probe of your multimeter to the top inner contact and then the other probe of your multimeter to the lower inner contact turn off and on the switch. When the switch is on, you should see the same resistance that you checked the resistance of the light bulb filament. If you don't see the same resistance then switch is bad. If resistances are equal then place batteries back in flash light and everything should be good to go!

Got new Energizer Hard Case Flashlight model IN421

Well much to our surprise the easy way is the best way. There are no instruction on the package nor on Energizer website but after googling we found reviews of the flashlight and how long it took others to find out how to put the batteries in. Although the base is square...it DOES turn and voila....comes off to insert batteries.

I have a GE battery powered (4 D cells) camping lantern. It will not turn on. The batteries are new and have been tested. Is there a way to remove the fluorescent and check?

Fluorescent lamps need a high voltage in order to ionise the gas inside and make them light up..Torch batteries will not produce enough voltage alone so the battery voltage is boosted by an inverter that is incorporated into the torch or lamp body. It is unfortunate but the majority of such lamp inverters use the cheapest, nastiest, flimsiest circuitry it is possible to use in such things and having taken a few lamps and torches (of respectable brands) apart and seen such things I find it easy to imagine they were thrown together in a far eastern handbag factory when there was a world slump in handbag sales. When working correctly the inverter produces a voltage high enough to really surprise anyone touching the wrong parts but they do tend to be unreliable due to the usually low quality. A handy person could conceivably persuade such a lantern to dismantle and check the switch and wiring and ensure the battery voltage is reaching the inverter but it would need electronic experiece to venture further into the reasons why it stopped working. A replacement tube could be tried but they fail rarely and rarely do they operate long enough to actually wear out so buying a new tube is likely to be wasted money.

LED Flashlight Battery Drain Problem

This particular flashlight uses a microchip that consumes the power of the batteries, whether in use or not. Loosen the case to where the batteries go in, so there is no contact with polarity. Or just take the batteries out completely and replace them for actual use. GGBMDB
