Guide :Camping, Backpacking & Hiking : 20 Million Power Series Spotlight

I lost the adapter/charger and purchased a new one of the same size. The light will work when plugged into the car cig lighter, but not while plugged into the dc adapter (has been plugged in for approx. 3 hours so far). Even though the charger is the same size (dc 12V 500ma), is that the problem? Or is the battery dead to the point of being unable to charge? Fuse is fine, by the way. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The owners manual states not to use light while under an ac charge, dc charging allows ld and single bulb use,and an ac charge may take 30- 36 hours or so. If the battery does not charge, you will probably need a new battery. Keep battery fully charged if not used within 2 months. Batterys are replacable 12 volt 7 AH. Hope this helps! Matthew

In the Coleman 5312 Retro Series Lamp is it supposed to work off the mains charger even if the battery will not charge. Battery is confirmed dead but lamp will not work on mains nor on 12v car lead. Don't want to buy new battery if the lamp unit iteself is faulty.

Brentonb, In the event that you don't get a direct answer (which is likely, since this is a pretty obscure question) I suggest you troubleshoot it this way. Remove the bad battery. Use the charging device that came with the lantern and wire it temporarily to the device in place of the battery. This will supply the correct voltage, but takes the possibly shorted battery out of the circuit. If you are certain you have the polarity correct and you know that the charger works, then you have your answer. good luck.

Spot light is unable to recharge with the wall

While it could be the battery, it could also be the internal charger in the spotlight. When you plug it in, it bypasses the charger and uses the connected power. However, it is likely just a bad battery. The batteries only last 3 years in an ideal setting and since these lights are typically only used certain times of the year, the batteries discharge and go bad. New batteries can be found at: http://batteryinternational.com/spotlight-batteries-vector-battery.html

I bought a vector 20 million power series sport/spot light and based my purchase on reviewsand company reputation. After receiving the light in the mail I followed the instructions charging it for the proper length of time then tried the light at night in a wooded area near my home. First impressions were anything but favorable, the light was poorly designed ergonomicallythe on-off switches were positioned to put it bluntly in a very stupid place making it awkward to turn off and on. I was ok with the lights size and weight it was just the way it was designed that made its size and weight a detriment to ease of use. Next after a several day full and complete charge I put the light in the trunk of my car to be ready for use on a weekend camping trip. When we arrived at the campsite and began setting up I got the vector out with high expectation of it lighting up my area so I could set up my tent so I set it up turned it on and at first thought wow this is great adjusted the stand started setting up camp when the brand new VECTOR 20 million candle power light slowly started to dim out all to my chagrin of course. within minutes it was dead as a doornail. Almost a HUNDRED dollars for a flashlight and my old trusty 1 million candle power DORCEY spotlight purchased from Harbor Freight that fortunately was in the trunk of my car came to the rescue.A cheap 10 dollar spotlight not only was brighter but it lasted the entire time it took to set up camp. After the weekend was over and I was back at home I emailed the vector company and to be honest was treated with a cross between sarcasism and indifference when I expressed my concerns. I was more than a little surprised and caught completely off guard so much so I allowed myself to be dismissed when I asked if I could trade in y brand new spotlight on one of equal or the one I was interested in trading on was a fair bit more expensive. My less than polite or helpful customer service represenative told me that they do not do that and in so much words he made it clear that I was stuck with the one I have and that it is clearly written in the ad that it is a large floodlight,. I gave up figured I had been stuck with the floodlight and swallowed my pride after writing a less than favorable review on the floodlight. I just had to write again I just took the light out to look at a car I had trouble with today turned it on and thought hey this is working ok but within 15 minutes the light dimmed very quickly till it was stone dead and I could not see anything. So out of sheer frustration I am writing this letter to express my feelings once more. Again I broke out my 10 dollar dorcey floodlight that had been hanging on a hook not plugged in and charging just hanging took it outside and it not only lit up my car but lasted the entire time and was still going strong when I finished brought it in hung it up and put the charger on it. So after this long winded explanation about one of your products it comes down to "I WOULD NEVER AGAIN BUY ANY VECTOR PRODUCTS NOR RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE!" I am stuck with this lemon I am trying to decide what the best job could be for this floodlight and all I could think of is that it would work well as a corner weight on the tarpaulin that I have covering my car. Sincerely, James R. Clement. A dissatisfied customer .

This light has'nt really like others much that can go wrong. I'm sorry to hear you had so many problems. I have this light and recieved it second hand, without an owners manual. I went to VectorMfg.com which redirected me to Black & Deckers web site. I there downloaded an owners manual. If I would'nt have done that I may have also posted many of the questions reguarding this light. There are many inportant things to know before use and continued use. The bulb and battery are replacable. Hope this helps! Matthew

Petzl Tikka Plus Headlamp has a short and is eating batteries

There's really not much that's serviceable in these things. Try cleaning all the terminals again but this time use VINEGAR instead of alcohol which does not neutralize the corrosion as vinegar does. Just dip a q-tip in the vinegar and swab it on the terminals, then with a dry one, swab up the excess. Then install all NEW batteries, do not mix old ones with new ones as the new ones cannot make the old ones work any better than they are used. If they still don't work, welome to the world of cheap products that are intended to be tossed when they quit functioning. Good luck. :)

I have a Vector 2,000,000 Power Series Spotlight and I need a new battery. The current battery is SEL sealed lead- acid. The number is DMU 3-12 12v 3AH. I have been unable to find this battery anywhere. The dimensions have to be 4 and 1/8 inch long, 1 and 7/8 inch wide, and 2 and 3/4 inch deep. The connectors need to be on the end of the battery. I would appreciate any help I can get in this matter. Thanks, Merle Von Holten, Walnut, IL 61376

There is good news and bad news concerning a replacement battery for this particular model light. The good news is that a suitable, but not exact, replacement will be available at Battery Mart on November 30, 2010.The bad news is that it cost $29.95.http://www.batterymart.com/p-sla-1039-12-volt-2-3-ah-sealed-lead-acid-battery.htmlI purchased about a dozen of these lights in 2006 and have had them in storage since. No one can or will be more unhappy than I should all of them need new batteries.

Lantern taken out of 5 year storage - switch was in "on" position - plugged in charger (15 hours) light remained red - never took a charge - won't light (rechargable twin tube No. 5348)

I don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but it looks like there are no longer replacement batteries available for that lantern. Please see this link for repair parts from coleman. (also possibly here.) There is a customer service number listed at the bottom of that first page that will put you in touch with a Coleman representative, who may be able to suggest an alternative choice for your lantern. Failing that, the only solution I can recommend would be to take the lantern to one of the aftermarket battery suppliers (such as Batterys Plus, etc.) and see if they can provide you with a non OEM version of the battery you need for your lantern to take a charge. Good luck. I hope you're able to find something.] I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread. If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

Bought the rechargeable light new a couple years ago, used one time for about 90 seconds. Went to use it again, it was dead. plugged in the battery charger into the cig lighter and it worked after 5 min. charging. I let it charge another 15 min. and it quit working. I then charged it with the electric charger and it never came on. What now?

First, ensure the charger is delivering voltage using a volt meter. If it is, the battery is probably bad. If you have soldering skills, the light can probably be disassembled and a replacement battery can be purchased from Radio Shack or online.
