Guide :Camping, Backpacking & Hiking : 12V Flashlight ML120

Makita ML 140 torch. Old battery would not hold a charge as it was very old. Torch works well with a new Makita PA14 battery. But the handle gets quite hot and I need to dismantle it to find the problem. One would not expect heat from the handle but rather from the head. I have undone the screws but the swivel part also has to be removed for access. What is correct procedure? I am radio technician Thanks, Dave B.

Remove the lens, and bulb holder. look down into the cavity, and you will be able to see the spring loaded pivots. Find sonething narrow to push them in with, so that you can remove the head. here is my fix (with photos) for the 18v version

The plastic part of the bulb holder broke. I got it back together but the lamp is now off-center and doesn't focus right. Obviously I need a part or parts. Can this light be converted to an LED, which would be more durable? The light has been used very little. I discovered the problem because it worked sometimes, and sometimes not.

Yes you can just replace the bulb with a LED bulb you can buy LED bulb at the lighting stores . you must consider that LED bulb is less brighter than an ordinary bulb for flashlight..read on here to where you can buy your replacement LEDbulb..http://www.ledtronics.com/products.aspx?page=1

I have a Cyclops 2 cell (2xCR123) flashlight that looks like the current CYC-XCF, but has no clip on the side. I bought two CR123-size cells that are rechargeable, but did not notice they are 3.7v each when fully charged. I put the cells in the flashlight right out of the package and they were GREAT--the light was as bright as I have ever seen it. I then recharged the cells, and when the switch was pressed on, the bulb went POOF! Obviously, a bulb designed for 6v was not up to handling 7.4v! In fact, I found one web site which described the bulb as "Ultra Bright 80 Lumens Xenon Bulb (T1-1/2 Xenon 4.8V)," for the new light with the side clip. 4.8v bulb for 6v?? Can you give me a part number for, a bulb which can handle two 3.7v cells? Since the original bulb might be rated at 4.8v, theone I need might be rated at 6v (over-driven by the same percentage). Thank you, Joe Hathaway

The CR123 is a 6-volt cell.
