You need 3 CR2450 3v Lithium "coin batteries". They go in with the + sign up. The batteries usually run about $3.50 - $4.00 each, but I just got a pack of 10 from amazon.com for $4.99 & free shipping! Once you have installed the batteries, slide the cover back on over them from the open edge until it clicks into place. If yours is anything like mine, the retaining screw is long gone. It isn't even necessary, unless you are prone to dropping your tape and the cover will pop off and send the batteries scattering everywhere. Fortunately, I had a jar of small screws sitting around and actually had a screw that fit mine. I hope this helps you out... Peace, Doug
