Science how do u explain how a prism splits light into a spectrum of colour

Light changes direction when it goes from an area of lesser resistance (air) to an area of greater resistance(the glass of the prism). the amount of change in direction is related to the energy level of the light. Blue light is a higher energy wave, so it is bent less. Red light is a lower energy wave, so it bends more. Each color of light has a different energy level, and so, is bent more or less than the others. The light exiting the prism is spread into energy 'bands' which represent what our eyes detect as colors.
