Mini Maglite LED not staying on

I have a Mini Maglite LED version that worked fine for a few days then started going out when tipped a little to shine in different direction or if bumped ever so lightly. This is aggravating! Some times cannot get it to turn on at all. So bought another and after a few days use it has started same thing. Any idea what is going on??

Mini Maglite LED not staying on

I found this site because I too have a pile of these with that problem. I have had maglites since the time when they weren't available to the general public and have always liked them. These new LED lights are great for the light/size ratio and I was very sorry to see this product perform so poorly. After reading the comments here I went to the Maglite site and found some troubleshooting tips. Believe it or not I fixed the one in my hand and can't wait to go fix the others. They really need to spell out on the package how the LED unit works when the batteries get low. Apparantly when they do get low the unit won't dim, it will completely shut off. You turn it off and then back on again and it flashes on but then stays off. According to the troubleshooting there is a bit of electonics in this unit that will shut the unit off if the battery voltage falls below a certain threshold. This appears exactly like a poor contact problem. I thought I had try battery replacement on some of my units in the past. The toubleshooting section does also cover other possible issues and shows how to try to fix them - not a bad document. Here is the link - good luck - I hope they stay in business. I think they need to address this issue somehow or else they will silently loose their market share. http://www.maglite.com/pdf/CustServ/Mini%20Maglite%20LED%20FAQ5222007805552.pdf

How do you change the bulb in a mini maglite?

Carefully.....Check in the base of the torch and you will see the spare bulb. you need to pull the spring out to get at it.Next unscrew the top off the torch to expose the bulb. The bulb is easily removed by gently pulling straight out. Replace the new bulb in the same way, lining the two pins up with the holes (doesn't matter which way round) and wipe the bulb clean of any finger grease etc. Screw the top back on and replace the spring in the base before screwing the base back on.. Replacement bulbs, and all other parts for that matter, are easily sourced at any good outdoor store that stocks MAG.Hope this helps..

Minimag LED shuts off

Hi,First question is what type of batteries have you been using.. A fault was found by Petzl a last year that identified a problem with using certain rechargeable batteries or lithium batteries in LED lights. The problem was that the batteries have a higher output than normal batteries and the heat created was damaging the LED's, shortening their life and in a couple of cases causing burning. Petzl have fixed the problem in their models and sent out warnings to outdoor stores to warn of the problem but I don't think that has spread too far across the industry..Hope this helps..

Unscrew the top head of the flashlight and check the contact points next to the bulb. if all else fails buy another one and take that one back and tell them it's defective.

My mag lite led xl100 will not turn on, have fresh batteries installed

Take the bottom piece off, remove the last battery and put a coating of petroleum jelly on the threads of the tube. Then take the bottom piece and run it all the way in and back off and back in 2 or 3 times. Then put a little more petroleum jelly on the threads and put the battery back in and the bottom piece. This should do it.

Don't know how to replace AA batteries in Maglite AA.

Some lights have a slot, (for lack of a better explination) in the back end. Get one of those rubber jar openers and use it to hold the light while you insert a small screwdriver shaft through the slot. Use the screwdriver for leverage. It may help to give the threads a shot of wd40 beforehand.

I have a 3AA LED mini maglite with stuck batteries. The best I can tell they have not leaked. I tried freezing the unit as well as heating the barrel to no avail. Is there a way of removing the bulb assembly out the top so I can use a dow to tap the batteries out? If not, how can I get them out? Thanks for any help you can give.

Well, I have a 3 cell mini maglite AA with a corroded battery stuck up next to the LED. I have searched but not found a way to remove the LED to push out the battery with a dowel. The best solution I read about was to drill a hole in the battery and insert a large screw and pull it all out. (My Maglite is from 2009 or 2010, but I think they made this model in 2011, 2012 and 2013- this is for SEO!)

Where do I send my maglite for repair under warranty

Hi,First stop would be the retailer you bought it from.. They should be able to accomodate. If not, I'd take it to a decent outdoors store 'cos they would have a good working relationship with their suppliers and should be able to facilitate the send back. They may charge a small amount to cover postage etc but at least it's easier for you..
